about

THEME:
Anosognosia is a deficit of self-awareness, a condition in which a person who suffers some disability seems unaware of the existence of his or her disability. Anosognosia results from physiological damage to brain structures, typically to the parietal lobe or a diffuse lesion on the fronto-temporal-parietal area in the right hemisphere. My wife is a speech-language pathologist and through her studies learned about this condition. It came up in conversation and it struck me as a great basis for an album theme. I occasionally pounder the idea that my concept of reality and "true" reality may not be one in the same. While it may not stem from physiological damage to the brain, I do believe that we live in our own worlds. Worlds built on our unique experiences, biases, and beliefs that lead us to deny or be ignorant of some conditions with which we must regularly deal.

COMPOSITION:
This album as an exploration of several new pieces of software. It is also inspired by 2 of my favorite bands Thievery Corporation and Zero 7. This project started as my first effort to compose using Ableton Live. In Live I composed the drums (kick, snare, and hi hats), bass, keys, and miscellaneous electronic sounds and effects. After that I exported the tracks into Propellerhead's Reason and added electric guitar with their new A-List Electric Guitarist "Pop Chords" instrument. In Reason I also added the lead synthesizer made from original built patches. Lastly, I exported these tracks into Apple's Logic and recorded live percussion (toms, ride, crash, woodblock, and propane tank) and all vocals (except iD the Poet who sent me tracks he recorded at his studio). There are 6 MC's, 2 singers, 1 percussionist, and an electronic musician on this project.
