Composition:
At the heart of this music is the Animoog Anisotropic Synthesizer which provides the majority of the electronic soundscape. I also used Propellerhead's Reason as a lead keyboard instrument that triggers different effects and counterpoint. While there may appear to be an improvisational or random feel to the music, all part are thoroughly composed. All parts were performed live and in one take.
Theme:
Hypnagogia is the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep. Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include lucid dreaming, hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. Common sensory features associated with hypnagogia can manifest as visual seemingly random speckles, lines, geometrical patterns, and representational images. Sounds of humming, roaring, hissing, rushing, zapping, buzzing noises, white noise, doorbell ringing and imagined speech are common. Typically these events are rapidly changing, fleeting, nonsensical, fragmented, and lacking in narrative content. Other reported sensations include numbness, changes in perceived body size, feelings of floating, out-of-body experiences and falling.
